Bruce Mayor Rudy Pope told the Chamber of Commerce Monday that a problem with a water line on Clay Street over the weekend caused some outages and low pressure for residents.
Pope said the problem originated from a joint in the line near the highway that has since been repaired. Pope said those who experienced a loss of water were put under a “boil water notice,” but those who only suffered a loss in pressure were OK.

Pope said it’s been a busy time around town with so much going on including the Weyerhaeuser turn lane on Hwy. 9 ongoing and the town’s efforts to extend sewer service to Bruce Community Living Center.
“We’ve got a lot happening and that’s the way we like it,” Pope said.
In chamber news, President Ben Hogan said the organization will host the annual July 4th celebration on the square and invited all to come out.

He also reminded everyone of the Sawmill Festival coming up on July 8-9.
“The festival committee has been working hard on it and things seem to be coming together nicely,” Hogan said.
He announced that PEPA has moved into their new office – the former Logan’s Drug Store building.
“We’re still trying to get our computer systems set up before we open the drive thru,” Hogan said.

Jay Vanlandingham, manager of Bruce Telephone Company, was the guest speaker for the meeting, talking about the recent upgrades to their system.
“It’s been a long five years to get this done and it’s still going on,” Vanlandingham said of the company’s work to install fiber throughout the area. “It’s taken every employee to make this go through.”
Vanlandingham said the upgrade has been significant for local customers with 70% of BTC’s base now with access to fiber directly to their home.

“I’m proud of my telephone office for the services we can offer,” he said. “Not many metropolitan areas can offer what we can here in Bruce.”
Vanlandingham noted that internet service and not telephone is BTC’s primary business at this point due to so many having cell phones. He noted BTC is a “progressive company” working to provide this area with the latest technology possible.

“We want to see more business come here and the technology we can now offer helps those efforts,” he said.
