A Pittsboro woman was fined more than $750 after pleading guilty in Derma court to three charges related to running through a roadblock and endangering firemen.
roadblock conesThe Calhoun City and Derma fire departments pressed charges on Dana Moore when she drove through their blockade on Hwy. 8 when they were working a major gas leak at the gas station in Derma.
“We had state officials on scene that had instructed us to block off the highway until we knew it was safe and she ran through it and nearly hit two of my firemen,” Calhoun City Chief Larry Goodwin said.

Moore pled guilty to disregarding a traffic device, reckless driving and disorderly conduct and was fined $769.25.
Goodwin said it’s a regular concern when firemen are working automobile accidents, fires or other incidents such as a gas leak that motorists don’t respect the job they’re doing and follow their directions.
“We’re out there trying to protect and serve,” Goodwin said. “We just want people to recognize when we’re working on a scene they need to respect.”
