Bruce Mayor Rudy Pope said the local committee working to put legalizing alcohol on a countywide ballot is preparing to make a final push for the needed signatures.
“The freezing weather and some other factors put a hold on our efforts the past few months, but we’re ready to get back after it,” Pope said.
Two separate petitions have been circulated for more than a year – one for beer and another for liquor. Pope said they are around 300 signatures short on both from where they feel comfortable turning them in to the circuit clerk’s office.
“It’s probably going to take some door-to-door effort,” Pope said. “We had some volunteers in Vardaman interested in doing that. We will need some in several areas to go and help get the needed signatures.”
“Let’s not miss this opportunity,” Pope said. “Let’s get this done now.”
