Theresa Nicks will lead the Bruce Chamber of Commerce for the next year. She was elected as the organization’s new president Monday by the chamber’s board of directors.
“This is an honor,” Nicks said. “This gives me an opportunity to give back to this community that welcomed me home.”
Nicks, who moved back to Bruce following retirement from a career out West, and new Vice President J.J. Winter of BancorpSouth, will officially take over at the March 1 Chamber of Commerce Banquet.

They will be supported by a new board of directors featuring – Connie Rogers, Allison McDowell, Ryan Berry, Ben Hogan, Larry Dale Parker, Jay Vanlandingham, Miles Jeffery, Andy Stepp and Randy Baker.
“I look forward to working with the board and learning from past chamber presidents, business owners and all who love this community on what they would like to see for Bruce in the future,” Nicks said. “I have the energy to listen to all those suggestions and do my best to carry them out.”
Nicks will lead a reorganization of the chamber following the resignation of Secretary Terry Davis effective March 1. The board is working to address that opening.
Tickets are on sale now for the chamber banquet for $30 and are available at the chamber office and Jeffery’s. The banquet will be at 6 p.m. in the Bruce Museum.
Andy Taggert, an attorney, former Madison County Supervisor and Chief of Staff to former Gov. Kirk Fordice, will be the featured speaker.
He has served in a variety of volunteer community service positions, including State Chairman for the presidential campaign of Ohio Governor John Kasich. He has been Chairman of the Greater Jackson (MS) Chamber Partnership, and was named by Governor Phil Bryant in 2014 as Co-Chairman of the Mississippi Department of Corrections Task Force on Contract Review and Procurement, to provide advice and recommendations for restoring public confidence and trust in the operations of state government in the wake of public corruption charges. Taggart is also a gubernatorial appointee to the Mississippi Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee.
Taggart is the co-author of two popular books. Mississippi Politics: The Struggle for Power, 1976-2008, re-released in 2009, was first published by the University Press of Mississippi in November of 2006 and earned two literary awards in the first year of publication.
His lighter book of political anecdotes, Mississippi Fried Politics: Tall Tales from the Back Rooms, was released in November of 2008.
He has authored or co-authored works published by The University of Mississippi Law Journal, The Mississippi Lawyer, The Journal of the Mississippi Academy of Sciences, The Journal of Mississippi History, and is a frequent contributor to business and trade periodicals.
The chamber banquet will also feature the presentation of awards for business and chamber member of the year and more.
