A Banner woman died in her home on CR 278 today when it became engulfed with fire around 10 a.m.
Martha Herron, 60, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calhoun County Coroner Wednesday afternoon. Firemen from Banner, Bruce and Chickenbone fire departments spent hours on scene trying to contain the fire to a point that a search could be done.
Calhoun County Fire Investigator Jimmy Wiygul said the cause of the fire is not known and remains under investigation.
Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley will be in charge of arrangements.
