Kenneth Armstrong, director of the Calhoun Baptist Association, talked to the Bruce Chamber of Commerce about the assocation at the regular meeting Monday.

Armstrong said 42 Southern Baptist Churches in Calhoun are members of the association, with the idea that “we can do more together.”

Armstrong told the chamber that two of the staples of the county association are the disaster relief program and the food pantry.

“I was born right here in Bruce and grew up here. I thought I knew Bruce and Calhoun City, but I will tell you, there are a lot of hungry and hurting people in Calhoun County,” he said.

Armstrong said that from now until Christmas the food pantry will provide groceries for over 900 families, which is around 2,000 people.

“That’s not a drop in the bucket of what we could do,” he said.

He went on to talk about the main purpose of the association which is to assist local churches in advancement of the gospel through the approaches of leadership development, community impact and global evangelism.
