Town Christmas parades, festivities begin this week

Christmas festivities begin around Calhoun County this week starting with the annual Bruce Rotary Auction.

The auction will be held in the Bruce Museum on Thursday, Nov. 29 to kickoff the weekend’s festivities highlighted by the 56th Annual Bruce Lions Club Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 1.

The Rotary auction will start at 6 p.m. with a soup and chili supper available starting at 5 p.m.

The parade on Saturday will start at 4:30 p.m. and feature Rose Wells of the Dog Lovers’ League as grand marshal. This year’s theme is “A Barnyard Christmas.”

There’s no cost to participate in the parade. Each float will receive expense money and several judged prizes will be awarded.

Calhoun Academy’s float entry in the parade will also be collecting canned goods for the Baptist Food Pantry during the parade. You can bring a can and donate when their float goes by.

On parade morning, you can enjoy Pancakes with Santa at the Bruce Museum. The event is sponsored by the Twentieth Century Club and will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Mrs. Santa will be present as well and the Juniorettes will host a Jingle Bell Salon with make-up, nails and face painting. Admission is $10 for the first child and $3 for each additional children. For more information call Julia Aron at 983-5753 or Kristi Shelton at 983-0003.

Saturday afternoon prior to the parade, Santa will be on the Bruce Square starting at 2 p.m. to visit with children.

Calhoun City’s Christmas Parade will be that evening at 7 p.m. with retired educators from Calhoun City Schools serving as grand marshals. This year’s theme is “A Down Home Country Christmas.” For more information contact the Calhoun City Chamber of Commerce at 628-6990.

Immediately following the parade, the Calhoun City Rotary Club will be hosting “Cookies and Photos with Santa” in the gazebo on the square.

Santa will hang around for an hour after the parade is over for photos ($10) with the children.

The Vardaman Christmas Parade will march down Main Street on Monday, Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m. Lineup will begin at 6 p.m. behind Vardaman Methodist Church.

This year’s theme is “A Joyful Community Christmas – The Joy of Giving Back.”

The final parade of the season will be the annual Big Creek “Redneck” Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m.
