Derma board of aldermen approved the purchase of bulletproof vests for the police department at their regular meeting last night.
They agreed to purchase two vests for $650 each from Mississippi Police Supply. Half of the price of the vests will be covered by a grant.
In another matter the board approved putting signs up and starting to write tickets for trucks coming down Strong St. in Derma.

Mayor Dock Gabbert said GPS brings trucks coming down the Academy Road (CR 406) down Strong St. to the highway instead of going around the curve in front of Derma Baptist Church.
The town agreed to put up a sign warning drivers of a curve and a “no trucks” sign.
Police Chief Steven Faddock said the town’s main part-time officer Kenneth Scott was going to the police academy in January and the town was looking for part-time officers.
In another matter, the board approved the January board meeting to be Wednesday, Jan. 2, since the first Tuesday is a holiday.
They also approved:
•Contracts with BBI Software and Hardware for $5,500 a year each
•Renewing CD for the fire department
•Tommy Daniel’s purchase of a parcel he has been paying taxes on
•Signing a resolution by MML to support EPA efforts to bring high speed internet to their members.
Clerk Deneen James reported bad debts of Elizabeth Jobe and Angela Fox.
The next board meeting will be Wednesday, Jan. 2.
