Calhoun County supervisors hired a new employee and approved funding for the NRCS beaver control program at a meeting Monday morning in Pittsboro.
David Green was hired as a full-time employee in district two.
The board appropriated $5,000 for the NRCS beaver control program citing the program has been more efficient in helping solve the problem for the county than other programs.
Other news from the meeting:
•David Williams met with the board regarding the ongoing dispute about a tree down that is blocking access to his property as well as the path for mail, garbage and school bus route.
Williams claims the tree is on the county right-of-way and supervisors should help remove it. Sup. Gwin Longest has stated the tree is on private property and it’s unlawful for him to do the work.
No action was taken at the meeting.
•Engineer Chodie Myers informed the board that the excess bond proceeds for the multi-purpose drainage improvement project can only be used for other projects similar in nature. The board had inquired if some of the funds could be used to complete the addition on the building.
•Travel was approved for 911 Coordinator Wayne Stone and dispatchers to attend a pipeline meeting and for other county officials to attend a workers comp meeting in Tupelo.
•School bus turnaround at 215 Hwy. 331 was approved.
•Board renewed the service agreement with QTPOD at $1,095 for the county airport.
