Ruth gets 50 year DAR pin, Parker is speaker

Loosa Schoona Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met February 11 at Jeffery’s.
Regent Newlin welcomed Daughters, guest and prospective members. Chaplain Bebe Maxwell opened with prayer.

Mattye Ruth was presented her 50 year pin at the February Loosa Schoona DAR meeting. Her daughter, Debi Cain, pins it on.

Newlin introduced guest speaker, Jeremy Parker of Parker Memorial Funeral Home. He is a Bruce High School graduate and attended Itawamba Community College. He earned a degree in Tool and Die and worked in industry before joining his father, Larry, full-time in the family business.

He later returned to school to become a licensed mortician and funeral director. He discussed pre-need arrangements they offer. A donation will be made to the M.S. Society in his honor.
Daughter Mattye Ruth was presented her 50-year pin as a special part of the meeting. It was pinned on by her daughter, Debi Cain.
Newlin led Daughters in the DAR ritual. Jan Barber led in singing the National Anthem. Minutes were approved and treasurer’s report given. President General’s report was given by Rose Regis.

Barber gave the National Defense report and spoke of America’s current issues. Constitution Minute by Newlin told of Constitution Convention proposing the Army be limited to 5000 soldiers. She reported the Indian Minute and told of the Native Americans developing a red dye that became an important export in the 1500s.
Flag Minute by Maxwell told that the U.S. Flag’s nickname was “Old Glory.” Conservation Minute by Ruth told of February being “Plant A Tree” month. Lynn Fales gave the Rosalie Minute and reported on Rosalie’s annual pilgrimage March 16-April 16. The Women’s Issue told that women had voted in larger numbers than men since the 1980 presidential election.

Business: Valentine cards mailed; Newlin to attend State Convention February 15; Loosa Schoona donation to Veterans’ Project; motion made and passed to send donation to Mansion Market.
Next meeting March 11 at 2:30 p.m. with program from Extension Service.
