Two accidents involving big truck spills shut down highways in Calhoun County Thursday.
Both accidents occurred at almost the same time – 11 a.m. A log truck overturned on Hwy. 32 west of Bruce. The driver suffered minor injuries and did medical attention at the scene. The log truck lost its load slinging the large logs in all directions. The truck stretched across the highway on its side. The highway was completely blocked until emergency personnel could get a wrecker to come in and move the truck.
At the same time on Hwy. 8 west of Calhoun City near the Pleasant Hill Community, a truck hauling tanks of acetylene, propane and oxygen overturned. The driver was transported to the hospital with what was believed to be non life threatening injuries. The highway was closed for almost five hours as Emergency Managements and Department of Environmental Quality inspected and cleared the scene for cleanup due to the chemicals involved in the crash.
