Calhoun City mayor and board of aldermen recently invested $7,000 into renovating the town’s tennis courts.
Huffman Construction and Tennis Courts were hired for the tennis court repairs which involved sealing all cracks and resurfacing.
The tennis courts were built in the early 1970s and last renovated in 2002 as part of a grant that stipulated the town must maintain them going forward.

“The original grant for the courts required they be maintained, but more importantly it’s a quality of life issue for the town,” Mayor Amye Hill said. “We have several that play and it wasn’t as attractive as should have been.”
Patsy Zeidman is among those who regularly use the courts and said the improvement of the tennis courts is among several efforts by town leaders to make improvements.
“We tennis players are delighted,” she said. “It makes the citizens know that all areas are important. Making Calhoun City a more appealing and attractive place reflects our pride in our town.”
The town also recently completed a major renovation of the public library and has also acquired a grant that will allow for the paving of the “hospital road” in the future when weather permits.
