Derma gave final approval to a flag design and set a clean up day at the regular meeting of the board last night.
The board gave tentative approval of the flag at last month’s meeting but tweaked a few items, including the background color. The flag, a 3×5 two-sided design, will be used at the parade of towns at the upcoming Mississippi Municipal Convention.
Board members also discussed displaying the flag inside city hall after the convention.
Aldermen approved the clean up day on Good Friday, Apr. 18. Mayor Dock Gabbert said the town had to contact MDOT to get bags for the clean up day and the town will supply gloves to citizens who want to help.
In another matter, the board approved the emergency purchase of a lagoon aerator for $14,000. The aerator used now is 13 years old and would cost more than $6,000 to repair, with no guarantees.
In another matter, Alderwoman Andrea Corbitt told Police Chief Stan Evans she was hearing complaints from citizens about loud music. Others said they had received similar complaints and Evans said they would see about it. Clerk Deneen Russell said five had been added to the bad debt list– Dominique Shaw, Jose Alberto M. Vargas, Cynthia Tedford, H.C. Edwards and James Tutor.
