Scott joins Calhoun City police force

Calhoun City aldermen voted to hire part-time police officer Kenneth Scott Jr. as full-time at their regular board meeting last night.

Scott’s beginning date of employment in that capacity is Nov. 17 and his salary will be $30,000 per year. He will be sent to the Police Academy for the full time training course for 12 weeks, Jan. 6 - March 29. His salary will be raised to $33,000 upon completion of his certification.

Chief Williams

Approval was given for Police Chief Latana Williams to attend new police chiefs’ training in Ridgeland in January; City Clerk Raenell Moore to attend the MMCCA Winter Education Workshop in December, and Mayor Amye Hill to attend the Mid-Winter Legislative Conference in January in Jackson.

It was also approved for Belinda Stewart Architect Firm to advertise for bids for the library construction renovation project.

Land and personal rolls from Calhoun County Tax Assessor Bill Malone were adopted.

MDA grant agreement was approved on ARC Hurricane Creek Line Stabilization Project.

Public Works director Lee Burns reported no sewer problems this month, a couple of water leaks fixed, and said cold mix should be here tomorrow and he plans to get started patching streets.

The board’s regular meeting for October was postponed due lack of a quorum. Business for that meeting was conducted at a meeting October 5. A special called meeting was held October 26 for a change order in the Hurricane Creek project. 

Alderman Larry Bratton was not in attendance.
